Opsterland Sustainability Days
From Thursday, September 17, through Saturday, September 19, the municipality of Opsterland is organizing Sustainability Days in Beetsterzwaag and Bakkeveen. Together with organizations such as Duurzaam Bouwloket and the housing associations Elkien and WoonFriesland, we’re offering tips, advice, free energy-saving products, and practical help to make your home more energy-efficient.
What is there to do?
Mobile showroom - Sustainable Building Counter
View and experience energy-saving products such as heat pumps, infrared panels, draft stoppers, LED bulbs, radiator wrap, solar panels, ventilation units, and insulation materials.
An advisor will answer all your questions: Where do I start? Which measures are right for my home? What subsidies and programs are available? How does the elimination of the net metering program affect my situation?
Energy scouts
The energy explorers in Opsterland will help you if you qualify for insulation subsidies. They:
- look with you at how you can make your home more sustainable;
- Help with forms, advice and quotations;
- Explore financing options with you.

Volunteer energy coaches
Energy coaches are volunteers from your own village. They know a lot about energy conservation and can help you with:
Tips for conserving energy;
- Advice on small steps, such as radiator wrap and LED bulbs;
- Help brainstorm ideas for major renovations, such as insulation, new windows, or a more energy-efficient heating system.
- Explanation of your energy contract or energy bill; assistance with signing a new energy contract
Small energy-saving measures, implemented immediately
During the Sustainability Days, small energy-saving measures can be carried out right in your home. For example, volunteer energy fixers can install draft stoppers, radiator wrap, and radiator fans for free, or replace incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs. In addition, energy coaches can also provide you with practical energy-saving tips and explain your energy contract or energy bill on the spot. This will make your home more comfortable and lower your energy bill.
Do you rent your home? On Thursdays, a WoonFriesland representative is available in Bakkeveen. On Fridays, an Elkien representative is available in Beetsterzwaag. You can ask them questions about your rental home, sustainability, and more.
Escape Room: "It's Not Happening!"
During the Sustainability Days, you can visit the interactive escape room “Het blijft uit” to help a fictional family lower their high energy bill and find out who or what is the biggest energy guzzler. Take on the challenge and discover how much energy you can save!
