City Council

The Opsterland Municipal Council has 23 members, divided into 7 political groups (political parties). The mayor serves as the council’s chairperson but does not have the right to vote. The Municipal Council represents the people of the municipality.

    The city council will meet on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. in the council chamber of the city hall in Beetsterzwaag.
    Please note the change in start time.

  • Gearkomst ried Opsterlân

    The city council will hold a special meeting next Tuesday. On Tuesday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m., the council will discuss the new coalition agreement. The council will also bid farewell to the current aldermen and swear in the new aldermen and two council members.

  • Public orientation council meeting

    An informational council meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the council chamber in Beetsterzwaag.
