Village App

The Municipality of Opsterland is offering a grant to villages to participate in the Dorpsapp. Through the Dorpsapp, residents can receive news, event announcements, and important information from their village directly on their phones.

Village App

The Dorpsapp was created in response to the need of several villages in Fryslân to reach their residents quickly and easily. The Beetsterzwaag/Olterterp Local Interest Group brought the app to the municipality’s attention.

With the Dorpsapp, the municipality aims to adapt to the way residents receive information these days—namely, via their phones. This way, news about roadwork, events, and other developments, for example, reaches residents directly. Clubs and organizations can also use the app to inform residents about their activities and news. The app is available for free download from the App Store.

Join Dorpsapp

Villages interested in the Village App can take the initiative themselves. The municipality supports villages that want to get started with this and provides grants for this purpose. Through this initiative, the municipality aims to further strengthen communication between residents, associations, volunteer organizations, and the municipality. For more information, please contact the village team.

Inform

The municipality will use the Dorpsapp as an additional way to provide residents with information quickly and directly. This makes us the first municipality to use the Dorpsapp for municipal communications as well. Through the app, residents can receive news, event announcements, and important information from their village directly on their phones.

Which villages already have the Village App?

Currently, these are Beetsterzwaag-Olteterp, Bakkeveen, Nij Beets, Lippenhuizen, and Tijnje.

What can I see in the Village App?

In short: All the news about your village! The Dorpsapp is a platform where local interest groups, associations, the municipality, and other nonprofit organizations can post their news. This includes activities, articles, calls for volunteers, and so on. You can also add other villages as favorites to see what’s happening in the area.

Can I post something myself on the Village App?

As a private individual, you cannot post anything on the Dorpsapp. Clubs and organizations can gain access to the app and use it to post content. If you would like to post something yourself, you can do so through the organization that manages the app in your village. Commercial organizations are not granted access to the app.

Is the Dorpsapp owned by the municipality of Opsterland?

No. The Dorpsapp was developed by Johannes Bergsma, a developer from Friesland. Various local interest groups in Opsterland have been collaborating with the developer for some time. Beetsterzwaag/Olteterp brought the app to the attention of the Opsterland municipality. We are eager to support these kinds of enthusiastic initiatives and help expand their use throughout the municipality. We are investing in the development of the village app for all villages, so that associations, organizations, and we as a municipality can reach residents better and more effectively.

How much funding can a village receive to participate in the Village App?

Currently, 40% of the costs of setting up the Village App can be reimbursed through the "Foor ús doarp" program. The municipality is looking into whether it is possible to provide additional funding.
