The Other Friesland
The Other Friesland is a collaboration between the five municipalities in Southeast Friesland: Heerenveen, Ooststellingwerf, Opsterland, Smallingerland and Weststellingwerf. Together they are working to promote this special region, which wants to distinguish itself from the better-known areas such as the Elfsteden and the Wadden.

An undiscovered Friesland
The goal of The Other Friesland is to introduce visitors to lesser-known Friesland. The emphasis is on the unique character and varied landscape of Southeast Friesland, such as sandy plains, forests and canals. Here you will discover a peace and beauty that cannot be found anywhere else.
Goals and vision for 2030
The Other Friesland aims to improve coordination and cooperation in recreation and tourism. The vision for 2030 reads:
"Southeast Friesland is characterized in the coming years by further development from a relatively unexplored region to a destination that is visible and experienceable for our residents, entrepreneurs and visitors, where they fully enjoy an attractive and vital living environment and business climate, in balance."
This vision emphasizes the balance between development, livability and sustainability.
