HBO | Grade 10 | 28 hours | 1-year temporary position with the intention of becoming permanent

As a Youth Consultant, you make a difference in the lives of children and their parents. You start the day by discussing cases with colleagues that you’ve been thinking about over the past few days, asking yourself, “What can I do today that will truly make a difference for this family?” Then you head out for a home visit, where you listen, observe, and sense what parents and children need. Sometimes it feels tough, sometimes you see small victories that make it all worthwhile. Later, you discuss with the family and the involved social workers how the support is going and adjust your plans where necessary. You take notes, briefly consult with a colleague about a difficult situation, and realize at the end of the day: today, your efforts have helped a family take a step forward.

What will you do?

As a Youth Consultant, you truly make a difference in the lives of children and families who are struggling. You provide practical support and short-term psychosocial assistance, always keeping the family as a whole in mind. Together with the family, you develop a support plan with clear goals and measurable outcomes. When parents or caregivers are unable to fulfill their parenting responsibilities, Health that the child receives the protection they need.

You take the lead on the case and involve other professionals or specialists when necessary. You work closely with schools, family doctors, the Municipal Health Service (GGD), volunteer organizations, social services, and the police to ensure prevention and safety. If a child’s well-being or safety is at risk, you follow the Reporting Code and, if necessary, submit a request for an investigation to the Child Protection Board. Even in crisis situations, you act quickly, establish safety protocols, and support the family.
