Job Opening: All-Around Field Representative, Civil Engineering
MBO 3 I €3,743 gross I one-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position I 36 hours
You start your day with a cup of coffee at the worksite, together with your coworkers. You laugh, catch up, and coordinate who’ll handle which tasks. Then you head out. You install a few place-name signs, but switch gears when a report comes in about a missing “com” sign. In the neighborhood, you easily strike up a conversation with residents and either take care of what’s needed or pass it on to a coworker. Around noon, you catch up with your coworkers briefly and share your experiences. In the afternoon, you order new parking signs. At the end of the day, you drive back and see the results of your efforts: together, you’ve once again made a visible contribution to a pleasant and safe living environment.
What will you do?
As an all-around civil engineering field worker, your main responsibility is managing the signage within the municipality of Opsterland. In addition, you’ll assist your colleagues in the field with the maintenance and management of public spaces. Your work will therefore be varied, including ordering and installing new signs (town name, street name, parking, and traffic signs), as well as working as part of a team to repair pavement, install street furniture, and carry out small construction tasks, such as creating driveways. In this role, you’ll mostly work alone, spending much of your time out in the field independently. You’ll work safely and carefully.
You work according to schedule, but you also respond to reports and situations that arise in the field. You handle reports from residents—such as the vandalism or theft of a sign—and maintain a visible presence in the neighborhood where you’re approachable.
In addition, you will help with snow and ice removal and be on standby in case of emergencies, such as flooding or storm damage. You will work both independently and with colleagues, ensuring every day that public spaces remain safe, clean, and fully functional.
Here's what we offer you
- Attractive employment conditions; a competitive salary based on Scale 6 of the Municipal Collective Bargaining Agreement (up to €3,743 gross per month for full-time employment, excluding the 17.05% IKB contribution), travel allowance, a pension plan through ABP, and discounts on various insurance policies.
- A varied job: one day you're working outside on signage, and the next day you're interacting with residents and working with your civil engineering colleague to clear a clog in the neighborhood.
- Plenty of opportunities to develop through training, courses and workshops.
- Room for your ideas; if you think things can be done differently we are open to that.
- Focus on wellness; participation in our wellness program and several annual activities involving the entire organization and the team.
Who are you?
We’re all different, and that’s what makes it great. It means we can accomplish so much more together than we could on our own. Still, all of our field staff share a number of common traits. Do you see yourself in this description?
- You work together and are there for your colleagues—together, you get the job done.
- You see what needs to be done and get right on it.
- Working outdoors suits you; you think it’s important for the neighborhood to look neat and safe.
- If things don't go as planned, you can easily adapt and stay on top of things.
- You work neatly, in an organized manner, and with care—whatever you do, you do it well.
- Residents may approach you—so you communicate in an approachable way: you listen, offer your input, and take care of what needs to be done.
- You have an eye for areas for improvement and actively contribute to making them better.
- You have a background in civil engineering or civil engineering and public works (MBO 2/3) or signage, and you can perform your work independently and professionally.
- You hold a Class B(E) driver’s license; you already have a Class C driver’s license and certifications such as VCA and BHV, or you are willing to obtain them.
