Job Opening: Sewer and Water Systems Manager / Work Planner
HBO - €5,178 - temporary position with the possibility of a permanent contract - 36 hours
You get out of the car and see a coworker just climbing out of a manhole. You’ve already put on your boots. Together, you’ll look into practical solutions for a leak in the main sewer line. Back at the office, you have a meeting scheduled with your coworker, who is the project manager. In the new work café, you discuss the sewer replacement projects for the coming year. At the coffee machine, the “ Alderman ” asks you: Has the contract for relining the sewer in Gorredijk been awarded yet?
What will you do?
As a manager, you are the lead coordinator of the municipal sewer system and are responsible for implementing the municipal “water management program.” You do this together with your fellow manager. Together, you are responsible for more than 600 km of gravity and pressure sewer systems. You prepare overviews and analyses of the existing system and process the inspection data. You prepare drawings and cost estimates for replacements and expansions and, together with our procurement advisor, handle the bidding process. While your fellow manager is primarily outward-facing and maintains contact with residents, you focus on internal operations. You approach your work on a project-by-project basis, maintain an overview of planning, progress, and finances, and regularly consult with project leaders and supervisors.
In a changing climate, you’ll do everything in your power to mitigate water stress in our municipality.
Here's what we offer you
- Attractive employment conditions; a competitive salary based on Scale 9 of the Municipal Collective Bargaining Agreement (max.
€5,178 gross per month for full-time employment, effective January 1, 2027), an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 17.05%, travel allowance, a pension plan through ABP, and discounts on various insurance policies. - A great work environment; every morning, your coworkers greet you warmly, and there’s certainly no shortage of humor here.
- Excellent work-life balance; we'll provide you with a laptop and a cell phone so you can work both at home and in the office.
- Plenty of opportunities to develop through training, courses and workshops.
- Room for your ideas; if you think things can be done differently we are open to that.
- Attention to your vitality; participation in our vitality program, annual multiple activities with the entire organization and team, and a fun work café!
Who are you?
We’re all different, and that’s wonderful. It means we can accomplish so much more together than we can on our own. Still, all of our administrators share a number of common traits. Do you see yourself in these?
- You find it energizing to work on ensuring a well-functioning sewer and water system, and you believe it is important for residents to be able to count on a safe, dry, and livable environment.
- You enjoy creating a clear overview, getting to the bottom of management tasks, and translating them into specific activities or projects.
- A systematic and results-oriented approach suits you well. You know how to set priorities and, even when things get busy, you keep your focus on what really matters.
- You naturally seek out collaboration and easily build relationships with colleagues, contractors, consulting firms, and other stakeholders.
- Sewer systems, sewage pumping stations, water management, and municipal water services are areas you’re familiar with. You follow developments in the field with interest and are eager to continue learning and growing.
- You understand that your work has a direct impact on residents’ living environment. That’s why you look beyond the technical aspects alone and are mindful of the interests of residents, the administration, and the organization.
- And perhaps most importantly: you’ll find energy in working on issues that may not always be visible, but that contribute every day to a well-functioning living environment.
