Heat Program

The Netherlands is working toward a future in which homes and buildings will be natural gas-free by 2050. We are also preparing for this in Opsterland. The 2021 Heating Transition Vision was the first step in this process. We are now working on the heating program, in which we are further developing the plans for the coming years.
Heat Transition Vision
In 2021, the municipalities of Ooststellingwerf, Weststellingwerf, and Opsterland jointly developed the Heat Transition Vision. This was a first step toward exploring how we can transition from natural gas to other methods of heating homes and buildings in our municipalities.
The Heat Transition Vision forms the basis for the heat program we are currently working on.
We are working on the heating program
In the heating plan, we outline the steps we can take in the coming years to heat homes and buildings differently, and which solutions are best suited to our municipality.
In drafting this plan, we are drawing on, among other things, the results of the resident survey. In the survey, residents were able to indicate what matters to them, what steps they have already taken, and what they need to make their homes more sustainable. We are also consulting with various organizations and other stakeholders.
The heating program is expected to be available in early 2027. After that, we will update the program every five years.
