Submit exemption
All children in the Netherlands must attend school. They have a right to education. As a parent, you must ensure that your child is enrolled at a recognized school. In certain situations, you as a parent can submit a notification of appeal for exemption or request an exemption from enrolling your child at a school.
Can I apply for an exemption?
This is possible if:
- Your child is unable to attend school due to physical or psychological problems.
- There is no school in your neighborhood that suits your lifestyle, way of thinking, or beliefs.
- Your child attends primary or secondary school abroad.
- Your child cannot attend school because you have a traveling job.
- Your child (aged 16 or 17) is following a course of study that does not fall under regular education, or is following a work-study program.
