Submit exemption
All children in the Netherlands must go to school. They have a right to education. As a parent, you must ensure that your child is enrolled in a recognized school. In certain situations, you as a parent can give notice of appeal for exemption or request an exemption from enrollment in a school for your child.
Can I file an exemption?
This can be as:
- Your child cannot attend school because of physical or psychological problems.
- For your child there is no school in the neighborhood that fits your way of life, thinking or faith.
- Your child attends a primary or secondary school abroad.
- Your child cannot attend school because you have a traveling occupation.
- Your child (16 years old or 17 years old) is taking an education, which is not covered by regular education, or is taking a work-study program.
