Leave outside school holidays

In principle, your child is not allowed to take leave outside of school holidays. If you do so, you are violating the Compulsory Education Act and are liable to prosecution. However, there are exceptions.

Free for special circumstances

You can request time off for your child in special circumstances. For example, for important family events such as a funeral or wedding.

No entitlement to leave

In some cases, you can assume that no additional leave will be granted.

Submit leave request

Leave requests must be submitted in writing to the head of the school/institution within a reasonable period of time. Requirements may be Requirements on the granting of leave, such as the subsequent presentation of certain documents. Approval or rejection must be given in writing.

All requests must, as far as reasonably possible, be accompanied by supporting evidence.

Appeal against decision

Do you disagree with the decision of the school principal or the truancy officer? Then you can submit a written objection to the person who made the decision. Leave taken without permission? Leave taken without the permission of the principal or truancy officer is considered unauthorized absence from school. The principal is obliged to report this to the truancy officer. The truancy officer will decide whether to file a report.
