Leave outside school vacations

In principle, your child may not take leave outside school vacations. If you do, you are violating the Compulsory Education Act and are liable to punishment. But, there are exceptions.

Free for special circumstances

You can request time off for your child for special circumstances. For example, for important family events, such as a funeral or wedding.

No right to leave

In some cases, you can assume that extra leave will not be given.

Submit leave

Requests for leave must be submitted in writing to the head of the school/institution within a reasonable period of time. Requirements may be imposed on the granting of leave, such as the subsequent production of certain documents. Permission or denial must be in writing

All applications must be accompanied, to the extent reasonably possible, by evidence.

Object to decision

Do you disagree with the decision of the school principal or the school attendance officer? Then you can object in writing to the person who made the decision. Leave taken without permission? Leave taken without the permission of the principal or compulsory education officer is considered unauthorized school absenteeism. The principal is required to report this to the compulsory school attendance officer. The compulsory attendance officer decides whether an official report will be filed.
