Temporary Support for Necessary Expenses (TONK)

This is an old post.

If you have suffered an unavoidable drop in income due to the coronavirus and are temporarily unable to pay your housing costs as a result, you can apply for Temporary Support for Necessary Costs (TONK).

Requirements

You may be eligible for TONK if:
• you have experienced a drop in income of 30% or more due to COVID-19 in January 2021 compared to January 2020;
• your income is not too high (an income of more than €3,000 per month counts in full as financial capacity);
• your assets do not exceed €10,072 for single persons or €20,144 for married couples;
• your rent or mortgage costs amount to at least €432.51 per month;
• you cannot cover these costs in any other way;
• you have done everything possible to claim other benefits, such as TVL, NOW, TOZO, or AIO. (If you are entitled to TOZO, you must have applied for it; if you have not applied for TOZO, your application will be rejected);
• the costs are related to the Netherlands;
• you are Dutch or equivalent and you are not excluded for any other reason.
