Sports in Kortezwaag sports hall possible again
The renovation of Sports Center Kortezwaag in Gorredijk has entered a new phase. Training will resume in the sports hall. Moreover, in the weekend of November 9 and 10, korfball club LDODK can start a new indoor season with 26 teams.
The sports hall is ready for (limited) use. Within a few weeks, the first changing rooms will be ready. Athletes (in the hall, fitness area and indoor pool) will then be able to change and shower in the hall again. Work is also underway on a (heated) catering area and sufficient toilet facilities.
Difficult choices
However, the work of renovating sports center Kortezwaag is also suffering setbacks. It is therefore necessary to make difficult choices. This means, among other things, that the selection of LDODK/Rinsma Modeplein, playing at the highest level nationally, will at least for the first two home matches on November 16 and December 1 move to the korfball hall in Drachten.
"Obviously we would have preferred to play these matches in our own familiar sports hall," said Gouke de Vries, chairman of LDODK. "However, that would currently mean that a large part of our supporters would not be able to attend these matches live. We don't want to do that to our supporters and our players. At the same time, in Gorredijk we are all doing everything possible to create the best possible conditions for the other teams."
Edward de Leeuw of Sports Center Kortezwaag is pleased that another important step has been taken. "The whole construction process requires a lot of adaptability from our visitors and staff and a lot of time and energy from us. But we know that at the end of the process we will have a beautifully renovated accommodation."
All understanding
According to Marcel van Opzeeland, Alderman of the Opsterland Municipality, the renovation of Kortezwaag is a large and complex project. "It is quite special that sports activities are still taking place during the construction," he said. However, from safety considerations in and around the sports hall, LDODK can receive less than half the normal number of visitors to Korfball League matches during the current construction phase. Van Opzeeland: "We don't take any risks with safety, so we understand that LDODK will divert to an alternative sports hall for the coming matches. I hope that LDODK's selection can play again at its familiar home base in Gorredijk as soon as possible."
Commitment and creativity
Alderman Van Opzeeland is impressed by the dedication and creativity of those involved. "The management, the staff, the LDODK board and the volunteers always know how to find solutions to ever-changing circumstances."
The renovation of Sports Center Kortezwaag consists of two parts. The existing sports hall will be renovated. A new sports hall will be built in front of the current hall. Making swimming pool De Delte more sustainable is also part of the plan.
