Closure of drug house in Hemrik
On March 10, the municipality of Opsterland closed a warehouse in Hemrik in connection with a drug offense. Hard drugs were found in the building on February 20. The building will be closed for 12 months.

Administrative measure by the mayor
Mayor Andries Bouwman has taken this administrative measure on the basis of Article 13b of the Opium Act (the Damocles policy). This means that the mayor can close a building after finding a commercial quantity of drugs. With this measure, the mayor is also taking action against the danger caused by hard drugs.
Tackling subversion
The possession, trade, or production of drugs is often accompanied by nuisance and crime. Criminal organizations make enormous profits from drug trafficking. Illegally obtained money is often invested in legal sectors, such as real estate and hospitality. This mixing of the upper and underworlds, also known as subversion, is very worrying. Government partners such as the police, the Public Prosecution Service, municipalities, and the Tax and Customs Administration work together to tackle suspicious cases and individuals. The aim is to combat abuses and stop organized and undermining crime.
