Young people up to the age of 23 without basic qualifications

With a diploma at least at MBO 2 or HAVO level, you increase your chances of finding work.

Diploma at minimum MBO2 or HAVO level

Are you between 18 and 23 years old and don't have a diploma yet? Then you are no longer required to attend school, but we do encourage you to obtain a diploma at a minimum of MBO2 or HAVO level, which is called a start qualification. You can do this by attending day classes or forms of education that combine learning and working. A basic qualification will increase your chances of finding a good job and earning your own income.

Without basic qualifications and truancy

First, someone from your educational institution will try to contact you to stop you from skipping school. If this does not work, the truancy officer will call you in for a meeting. Together with you and your educational institution, the truancy officer will discuss the options for obtaining a basic qualification.

Note!

If you continue to skip school, the school may expel you. In that case, you will lose your right to student finance and a public transport pass. The Education Executive Agency (DUO) may reclaim student finance.

Questions

If you have any questions about this or are unable to attend school because you may be experiencing difficulties, discuss this with someone from your educational program or contact Compulsory Education. We are happy to help you on your way to a promising future.
