  1. Completed: Questions and answers research flow-through location De Twirre

Last February 4, 2025, the Opsterland municipality organized an information meeting because we are going to investigate whether the vacant school building de Twirre could be suitable as a flow-through location. A flow-through location is a location where status holders can live temporarily while waiting for housing in the municipality of Opsterland or in a neighboring municipality.

During the walk-in meeting on this topic on Feb. 4, Ureterp residents asked questions and expressed their concerns. We have compiled the questions and answers in this report.

  2. Completed: Investigation of possible flow-through location

The municipality is investigating in Ureterp whether the location of De Twirre is suitable as a flow-through location. This would be a small-scale flow-through location for 25-50 residents. Should this location be suitable, we expect that the location can be put into use in early 2026.

  3. Completed: Ikenhiem: What will happen next?

The municipality can now buy the property and see exactly what needs to be remodeled so that status holders can live there. Status holders are people who have applied for and been granted asylum in the Netherlands. They are entitled to (social housing), but are still staying in an asylum seekers' center because there is not enough housing. In a transit location, people can live temporarily. After that they are supposed to move to their homes in different municipalities in Fryslân.

  4. Completed: Plans for Ikenhiem flow-through location can proceed to next phase

On February 24, the Opsterland Municipal Council voted on the amount of money needed to continue with the Ikenhiem flow-through location in Beetsterzwaag. This means that the municipality can proceed with the realization of a flow-through location for 80 status holders.

An orientation meeting allows council members to ask questions of the mayor, aldermen and officials about certain topics. As a result, council members know everything they want to know about a particular topic and can discuss and agree or disagree with that topic even better at a subsequent meeting.
