Elkien's 36 homes at Geert van der Zwaagstrjitte and Rindert van Zinderen Bakkerstrjitte in Gorredijk are outdated. Research revealed several problems. For example, there is cracking. There are also moisture and draft problems. With home improvement they do not solve these problems. That is why Elkien is demolishing the houses and replacing them with new construction.

Elkien is building 40 new energy-efficient homes in return. These newly built homes are gas-free and suitable for one- to two-person households and small families. There are two bedrooms and an attic. Each home will have its own garden with separate storage. Elkien will also have solar panels installed.
