Will you be our community poet?
The municipality of Opsterland is a beautiful municipality in the heart of the Frisian Woods. A municipality rich in forests, heathland, nature, meadows, and 16 villages, each with its own story. A perfect breeding ground for art and culture.
Opsterland does not currently have a municipal poet. So you could become Opsterland's first municipal poet.
What are the requirements for the municipal poet?
The municipal poet writes poems that reflect the identity of the municipality of Opsterland. The municipal poet can communicate and share poetry in an enthusiastic, appealing, and stimulating way. This allows for an independent and critical view of the social and cultural changes in Opsterland.
What will the poet do?
- The municipal poet is appointed for two years;
- Writes six poems per year that relate to current events such as Liberation Day;
- Makes presentations that tie in with cultural events;
- The municipal poet must be at least 18 years old and live in Opsterland.
- The municipal poet writes poems in Dutch and Frisian.
Compensation
The municipal poet receives €1,000 in compensation per year.

You can register using the registration button below. To participate, you must submit a poem about Opsterland. Responses can be submitted until August 31, 2024. A jury will judge the poems and select the winner. The municipal poet will be sworn in as Opsterland's municipal poet in September.
