Opsterland sustainability weekend was a success
From Thursday, October 9 to Saturday, October 11, the municipality of Opsterland was all about sustainability weekend. Together with the Duurzaam Bouwloket and housing corporations Elkien and WoonFriesland, we helped residents in Gorredijk and Ureterp with free advice and practical help to make their homes more energy efficient.
Housing sustainability advice
Homeowners were able to view and experience energy-saving products such as heat pumps, infrared panels, solar panels, ventilation boxes, a home battery and insulation materials at Duurzaam Bouwloket's mobile showroom.
In Ureterp, residents came specifically to the showroom that stood at MFC De Wier. Saturday in Gorredijk there were also many shoppers visiting the stand on the square at the Schansburg. The advisor from Duurzaam Bouwloket and our municipal energy scouts answered questions on the spot about insulation measures and their financing. Follow-up appointments have also been scheduled for home visits to advise residents at home.

Volunteer Energy Coaches and Energy Fixers tinker in people's homes
Job teams consisting of an energy coach and an energy fixer visited households to install savings products. At 42 homes in Gorredijk and Ureterp, they installed savings measures. At one house they glued radiator foil behind the radiators in the living room, at another house the 100-watt light bulbs in the hallway, living room and toilet were replaced for 6-watt LED bulbs. There were also homes where draft strips in the interior doors were needed to prevent annoying drafts. With these measures, residents save on their energy bills, but their homes also become more comfortable.
As a municipality, we are very pleased with the team of Energy Coaches and Energy Fixers. They are well-trained residents who volunteer their time to help fellow villagers save energy. Could you also use tips on saving energy? Or do you need help installing energy-saving products? Then you can contact the Energy Coach from your village.
Sustainability weekend was successful
During the weekend, employees of housing associations Elkien and WoonFriesland helped tenants with their questions. In Ureterp, craftsmen placed draft strips on exterior doors and did other odd jobs in rental housing. The municipality's budget coach supported residents with money problems and referred them to appropriate solutions. Meanwhile, residents could talk to the community worker about their neighborhood over a cup of coffee and a cookie.
This sustainability weekend was organized for the first time. We talked to and helped many residents and are looking to organize it again in the future.
