The Opsterland landscape partly consists of streams, rivers, and canals. This provides all kinds of opportunities for water recreation, such as boating, canoeing, or supping.

Turf Route

Polderhead Canal

Since 2015, the Turfroute is again in contact with the National Park the Âlde Feanen. The connection has been restored through the Polderhead Canal. See details about the canal below.

Operation times Polderhead Canal

  • Daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Opening period: May 15 to September 15

Passage depth, - height and sailing speed Polderhoofdkanaal

  • Passage depth: 1.10 m
  • Clearance height: 2.70 m
  • Maximum boat speed: 6 km/hour

Based on monitoring of nature development, passage depth, operation times and opening period will be redefined each year in the coming years.

Failures Polder Main Canal

In case of bridge malfunctions, you can press the emergency button. The emergency service will then be automatically notified and will come to see what is going on and fix the problem.
