Social assistance benefit

A Social assistance benefit is a temporary benefit from the municipality. This ensures that you can make ends meet until you have a paid job that allows you to provide for yourself. If you are on Social assistance benefit benefit, you must do everything you can to find a paid job as soon as possible. The municipality will help you do this. Because you are a status holder, this is the same counsellor as for your integration.

Requirements

You are entitled to Social assistance benefit benefits if your income and own assets (and perhaps those of your partner with whom you live) are below the social assistance level. Equity does not only include savings. For example, a car or a house are also considered equity. In addition, the following Requirements apply:

• You are eighteen years of age or older.
• You live in the Netherlands.
• You do not receive any other benefits.
• You do not belong to an excluded group of people, such as prisoners or foreigners who are not allowed to live in the Netherlands.
• Separate rules apply to young people up to age 27. More information can be found at www.werk.nl.

Request

You apply for the Social assistance benefit at www.werk.nl. At the same time as applying for the benefit, you register as a job seeker with the UWV Werkbedrijf. It is important that you register immediately. This is because the date of registration is important in determining your entitlement to benefits. If you do not receive notification from Opsterland Municipality within a week, please contact the Public Centre by telephone at (0512) 386 222.

Bring

We need some information from you. This way we can determine whether you are entitled to benefits. Once your application has been received, you will receive a letter of invitation. This letter tells you exactly what you need to bring.
