Sûn Opsterlân

In 2018, the municipality of Opsterland committed itself to Healthy Youth, Healthy Future (JOGG), with which the municipality aims to give impetus to initiatives focused on prevention. The goal is to connect (existing) initiatives, wishes, and ideas within a village and to facilitate them in order to strengthen them. Within the municipality of Opsterland, we are working on the JOGG approach under the name Sûn Opsterlân.

Healthy youth, healthy future (JOGG)

TheHealthy Youth, Healthy Future program (, JOGG) is seen in the National Prevention Agreement as an important local approach to reducing obesity among young people. In the Netherlands, 1 in 7 young people are overweight, compared to 1 in 2 adults. Overweight is a rapidly growing social problem and, alongside smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, is one of the greatest threats to the health of the Dutch population.

Sûn Opsterlân

Children's behavior is greatly influenced by the environment in which they find themselves. When children grow up in an environment that encourages healthy behaviors, it has an effect on the rest of their lives.

Sûn Opsterlân, together with public and private partners (such as childcare, schools, sports clubs, supermarkets, event organizers, etc.) tries to influence the environment in such a way that healthy behavior is stimulated and the healthy choice becomes the easier choice. Examples include an exercise-friendly schoolyard, vegetable gardens, water taps, exercise-friendly design of the living environment, vegetables, fruit and water during events, exercise campaigns, etc.

Sûn Opsterlân is committed to a healthy environment!
