Successful collaboration during the Frisian Law Enforcement Day
The enforcement day organized as part of the National Environmental Law Enforcement Strategy (LHSO), which took place on May 19, 2026, in Fryslân, was a success. During this joint operation, various supervisory, enforcement, and investigative agencies worked closely together. In total, more than fifty inspections were carried out.
Frisian collaboration
The enforcement day was organized by the municipality of Opsterland, the police, and FUMO, in collaboration with the Frisian municipalities, Wetterskip Fryslân, the fire department, Natuurmonumenten, It Fryske Gea, the Animal Protection Agency, the Safety Region, Sportvisserij Fryslân, the Public Prosecution Service, the Province of Fryslân, and the NVWA. Working in mixed teams, enforcement officers, inspectors, and specialists set out from the command center in Gorredijk to dozens of locations across the province to conduct inspections on a variety of topics.
Knowledge sharing and collaboration
The day focused on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strengthening a unified approach to environmental enforcement. By working together in the field, we not only further strengthened our mutual cooperation but also gained valuable experience in the comprehensive implementation of the National Environmental Law Enforcement Strategy.
Chain approach
Over fifty inspections were carried out during the day. These inspections covered a wide range of issues, including fishing licenses, traffic violations, animal welfare, environmental matters, and business activities requiring permits.
In total, several official warnings and a few citations were issued. A number of identified cases are currently under further investigation. With the successful implementation of this LHSO action day, the partners underscore the importance of continued cooperation toward a safe, clean, and livable environment in Fryslân. The findings from the action day will be jointly evaluated by the participating organizations in the coming period and followed up on as necessary.
