Monuments
The most visible form of cultural heritage is built heritage. These are built objects such as churches, stately homes, old factories, mansions and mills.

Built heritage contributes to the quality of the living environment. The living environment becomes more pleasant when built heritage is well maintained. But it also attracts new businesses and tourism.
Story of Opsterland
Buildings that are part of built heritage tell the story of Opsterland's history. People often believe that these buildings should be preserved and protected. This is already happening on a national level; built objects that are protected nationally are called national monuments. The municipality can also protect objects. These are municipal monuments.
