Mantel Care
You are a Mantelzorger when you provide intensive Health and or unpaid help to a partner, family member, friend, acquaintance or neighbor for a period longer than 3 months. A family caregiver is not a professional caregiver but provides help or Health from a personal bond with the one you care for. The help you give as a family caregiver may consist of caregiving, but it may also be help with necessary daily activities such as household chores. This help allows the other person to get by, continue to live at home and participate in society.

Informal care support
As a family caregiver, you spend a lot of time caring for your partner, child, parent or another loved one with mental health problems, a chronic illness, age-related issues such as dementia or physical limitations in your environment. This sometimes leaves little time for yourself. How often in the past month have you had time to play sports, have a cup of coffee with a friend or play pool at the café?
It is important to take good care of yourself as well. Relaxing now and then makes it easier to cope with caregiving and helps to prevent overburdening.
Good to know!
If you care intensively for a loved one, you often think this is quite normal. Yet what you do is very special. You should know that you do not have to be alone.
- You can get help through various professional organizations. Increasingly, health insurance companies also reimburse informal care support and/or respite care through supplementary insurance.
- You may also be eligible for support from the Wmo. Area Team consultants can advise and help you find appropriate support.
- A number of villages in our municipality have village support centers. You can go here with all kinds of questions, but also if you need someone to help you temporarily with mowing the grass, for example.
- On the website voorelkaarplein.nl you can find more information about facilities, peer contact, village rooms and activities.
Housing and informal care
When there is intensive informal care, it is sometimes possible for the informal caregiver and the care recipient to live at the same address. It is possible for an informal caregiver to move in with your loved one or your loved one comes to live with you.
