Junior Construction Inspector

As a Construction Inspector, you’ll often be out in the field, with both feet firmly planted in the practical side of the job. You’ll visit construction sites in the municipality, talk to contractors and residents, and verify that the work is being carried out in accordance with the permit and applicable regulations. You’ll combine your interest in construction and engineering with a keen eye for safety, quality, and the surrounding environment.

HBO Architecture I Scale 8 I one-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position I 36 hours

You get in the car in the morning on your way to a construction site. At the site, a contractor is already waiting for you with questions about the progress. Later that day, you’re in the office coordinating with colleagues on a permit and notice that something isn’t quite right. You think on your feet, keep track of the big picture, and are curious about how things can be improved. You don’t just see construction as a job, but as a field that interests you. And here’s the good news: you don’t have to know everything yet—we’ll teach you the trade on the job.

What will you do?

As a Construction Inspector, you’ll often be out in the field, with both feet firmly planted in the practical side of the job. You’ll visit construction sites in the municipality, talk to contractors and residents, and verify that the work is being carried out in accordance with the permit and applicable regulations. You’ll combine your interest in construction and engineering with a keen eye for safety, quality, and the surrounding environment.

You are approachable and clear. People ask you questions, and you clearly explain what is and isn’t allowed and why the rules exist. If you notice something isn’t right, you address it and remain firm when necessary. You follow through on agreements and keep track of progress.

You look beyond the structure itself. You’re alert to signs that may indicate subversion and discuss them with your team. You participate in comprehensive subversion checks, working alongside colleagues and sometimes outside regular office hours.
You work closely with colleagues from Permits, Supervision, and Enforcement, as well as with other departments and partners. In this way, you contribute together to a safe and pleasant living environment.

No two days are the same. One day you’re on-site, the next you’re in the office coordinating, collaborating, and documenting your findings. As a junior, you’ll receive the time and guidance you need to learn the ropes. You’ll shadow experienced colleagues, ask questions, and gradually grow into an independent role. And sometimes you’ll work in the evenings, for example during audits—that’s part of the job, and we’ll coordinate it well together.
