Scope of the Opsterland Biodiversity Plan.

The municipality of Opsterland wants to turn biodiversity loss into restoration and strengthening of biodiversity. That is why Opsterland is drawing up a biodiversity plan. This biodiversity plan forms the policy framework and is in line with the 2023 Environmental Vision and the 2022-2026 coalition agreement 'Mei-inoar Foarút'. Initially, the plan focuses on municipal properties in public spaces, but cooperation with residents, farmers and nature organizations is also important for achieving the goals.

The plan has an area-based approach. In our villages, the focus is on further greening the living environment, nature-inclusive measures and strengthening connections with the countryside. Along roads and waterways better ecological connections will be realized through, for example, herb-rich verges, wooded belts and natural banks. The varied landscape of the Opsterland municipality offers opportunities for biodiversity restoration.
