Requesting resources
Limitations can make it more difficult to manage independently. Even then, it is important to stay active and moving for as long as possible.
How do I stay independent for as long as possible?
If you have trouble walking (stairs) or biking, you may want to seek help from a physical or occupational therapist. Training and treatment may help you learn to walk or cycle better again. Are you afraid of falling? Then you can take advantage of a fall prevention course.
Resources
Do you continue to have difficulty walking or biking? Are you finding it increasingly difficult to manage independently at home? If so, you may need an assistive device.
How do I get a tool?
Do you have temporary difficulty standing and/or walking and need an assistive device? You can borrow an aid free of charge for six months from a home care store and loaner. Medipoint is such a home care store with a lending office in Oosterwolde and a store in Drachten. Examples include a wheelchair, high-low bed, po chair, personal alarm (necklace or bracelet) and shower chair.
Do you have a permanent need for an assistive device? You can buy many aids yourself (second-hand). We expect you to buy aids such as (wall) brackets, threshold aids and shower/toilet chairs yourself. This may be partially reimbursed by health insurance from the basic package. Are you unable to find a solution yourself? Then the Area Team can think along with you.
Wheelchair
If you need a wheelchair temporarily, you can borrow one free of charge for six months from a home care store. Many places, such as hospitals, have wheelchairs you can use. You can also buy a wheelchair yourself (second-hand).
Do you need a wheelchair permanently and on a daily basis? Then the Area Team can help you find a suitable solution.
