Successful look behind the scenes at transfer location Ikenhiem
There was a high turnout on February 14 during the behind-the-scenes tour of the Ikenhiem transit location. The regional transit location will soon offer 80 status holders temporary housing before they move to their permanent rental homes in the region. Before the first residents arrive shortly, local residents were given a behind-the-scenes tour. The high turnout showed that there is a great deal of interest in the location. People were able to ask questions, sometimes express their concerns, and a number of visitors signed up as volunteers.
Getting started with integration
The Ikenhiem transit location is, as it were, an interim solution. How does that work exactly? People who have been granted a residence permit can leave the asylum seekers' center. They do not have to wait there for a rental home, but can live temporarily in the transit location. The advantage of this is that people can start integrating into the region where they will be living. Ikenhiem will soon be home to status holders who will eventually live in the municipalities of Heerenveen, Smallingerland, Weststellingwerf, or Opsterland.
Collaboration
Of course, we in the municipality of Opsterland are not doing this alone. First of all, we work closely with the three other municipalities. In addition, @Woord van Kracht provides social support at the location and @Stavoor provides language lessons. These language lessons then continue in the municipality where someone will eventually live.
