Corporations invest €12.6 million in Opsterland
The municipality of Opsterland, housing associations Elkien, WoonFriesland, Woonzorg Nederland, and tenants' organization Huurdersbelang Fryslân have established the performance agreements for 2026. Together, the organizations will invest more than €12.6 million in Opsterland's housing stock, quality of life, and sustainability in the coming year.
The collaboration between housing associations, tenant organizations, and the municipality of Opsterland has been considered strong for many years. According to the parties involved, this joint approach is essential in a time of national unrest regarding rental policy, investment opportunities, and new legislation.

Seventy new homes
The €12.6 million will be invested in various areas. In 2026, Elkien will complete the construction of 40 new homes and is expected to start building 30 apartments. The parties are also investigating a new location in Ureterp. In order to realize the construction project by 2030, the parties are making agreements about this in a new construction covenant. Affordability remains a priority: sustainability measures will reduce energy costs, and 'early detection' will enable financial problems among tenants to be addressed at an earlier stage.
Working together to create pleasant living conditions
The collaborating parties are strongly committed to sustainability. By 2026, Elkien will have made 29 homes sustainable to at least label C. WoonFriesland is completing similar work and will then focus on further sustainability of its properties towards label A; 70% of their homes already have energy label A or B. The homes of Woonzorg Nederland in Opsterland already have energy label A. Liveability, biodiversity, energy-efficient living, and support for vulnerable groups will also be given a central place. For the elderly and other focus groups, a Housing, Health Welfare implementation agenda will be developed in 2026.
Alderman van Opzeeland is pleased with the new performance agreements: "With these performance agreements, we are taking another solid step toward keeping Opsterlân affordable, sustainable, and accessible. The joint investment of €12.6 million shows that corporations and municipalities share the same ambition: to ensure good living conditions for our residents, now and in the future."
