Early Application for Electrical Service Connections for Residential Construction and Schools
Are you planning to build one or more homes in the municipality of Opsterland within the next 10 years? Have you not yet requested an electrical connection from the grid operator? And would you like to move up on the waiting list for an electrical connection? If so, please register your project with us no later than Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

The “apply for an electrical connection in advance” procedure applies only to new construction projects (ranging from a single-family home to an entire residential neighborhood) and educational institutions. Other applications and buildings will also be processed by the grid operator, but that is outside the scope of this procedure.
We know that registering your housing project is a time-consuming task. Nevertheless, we ask that you do so. Otherwise, there is a risk that a new home will not be connected to the power grid.
Why is it necessary to apply early?
All municipalities in the Netherlands have been instructed by the national government to include housing projects for the next 10 years in their “ Map ” plans. This is being done in accordance with the national “apply for electricity connections earlier” policy. This policy will take effect on October 1, 2026.
This assessment provides grid operators with earlier insight into expected electricity demand. This allows them to better account for this demand when planning and allocating available capacity on the power grid.
Prioritize Requests
In addition to the application for transmission capacity, we can submit a separate application for priority to Liander. Additional supporting documents are required for this. The frequently asked questions section lists the additional information you can submit for this purpose. If Liander grants priority, the application will be moved up on the waiting list. Being granted priority does not guarantee that capacity will be available immediately.
When is your project eligible?
The “apply for an electrical connection in advance” procedure applies only to new construction projects (ranging from a single-family home to an entire residential neighborhood) and educational institutions.
You can submit your project as:
- you are a business or private-sector initiator or project developer;
- you build one or more homes over the next 10 years (through December 31, 2036);
- you haven't yet requested a power connection from the utility company.
Have you already been in contact with the municipality regarding your project? For example, because you’ve applied for an environmental permit or plan to do so soon? Even in that case, you must submit a separate application for “early application for a power connection.”
