Youth and School Consultant

HBO I €5,554 I one-year contract with the possibility of becoming permanent I 28 hours

You walk into the school and a student waves at you. You catch up with the internal counselor, then have a conversation with a teacher who is concerned about a family. After lunch, you work at the town hall on a plan to pick up on signs early on. You switch smoothly between school, parents, and colleagues. Today you really made a difference, not through heavy interventions, but by being there. Close to the child, together with the people who matter.

What will you do?

As a youth consultant working for the regional team at the town hall, you will provide help and support with parenting and child development issues. You will assess situations, draw up plans together with families or young people, and oversee the process when multiple professionals are involved. You liaise with care providers, general practitioners, the Municipal Health Service (GGD), welfare organizations, and other partners to prevent problems as much as possible. Is a child's safety or development at risk? Then you act decisively in accordance with the Reporting Code and draw up safety agreements where necessary. Crisis interventions are also part of your professional expertise.

At school, you are the designated point of contact for children, parents, and teachers in your role as a consultant. Children develop best when they feel safe, seen, and understood. As a consultant at school, you contribute to this. You work with schools, parents, and children to discover what is really needed to help a child feel comfortable in their own skin again and grow with confidence. Whether it's feeling uncomfortable in class, dealing with emotions, strengthening self-image, or circumstances at home that affect a child's well-being, you observe, listen, and help provide direction.

You conduct brief, focused conversations with children, parents, or other involved parties, and together you explore what issues need to be addressed and what is needed to enable them to continue independently. If it becomes apparent that more support is needed, you discuss this openly and honestly and work together to find a suitable solution.

You are a professional (SKJ or BIG registered) who stays in control, builds trust, and really makes a difference. And you are not alone: you are part of an enthusiastic and collegial team where humor, commitment, and a pleasant working atmosphere are central. Brainstorming together, helping each other, and celebrating successes—that is how we work.

Here's what we offer you
