Mantelzorgers, parents who read aloud, ready-overs, collectors, people who are active in clubs or sports associations, volunteers who serve coffee in the nursing home or tidy up playgrounds: volunteers are important to every municipality! That is why the Opsterland municipality would like to comprehensively insure them against the most common damages. To this end, we have taken out a collective volunteer insurance policy. Volunteers are automatically insured free of charge through the municipality.

VNG Volunteer Insurance

The Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG), in collaboration with Centraal Beheer Achmea, has developed an insurance policy for volunteers and informal caregivers in the Netherlands. The municipality of Opsterland has taken out both a basic policy and a plus policy. The basic policy covers accident and personal property insurance for volunteers, as well as liability insurance for volunteers. The plus policy covers liability insurance for legal entities, directors’ and officers’ liability insurance for volunteers, motor liability insurance for volunteers, and legal assistance insurance for volunteers. More information about the VNG Volunteer Insurance can be found on the Centraal Beheer website at.

What is insured in our VNG Volunteer Insurance?

Insured

  •  Volunteers and caregivers in their work for liability and accidents
  •  Social internships of school students
  •  Volunteering as part of municipal quid pro quo

Not insured

  •  Building liability: think, for example, of a roof tile falling off a building on top of a visitor's head. Or a visitor falling off a broken bar stool in the cafeteria.
  •  Employer's Liability
  •  Volunteer firefighters and volunteer police officers
  •  Owners' Association (VvE). This is a private interest, not a social interest
  •  Travel to dangerous places is not covered
