Construction and remodeling, inspection

Do you suspect that a construction or remodeling project is not going according to the rules? You can report this to the municipality. Construction or remodeling is probably not going according to the rules if work is done without a permit, not according to building codes, outside normal working hours or not safely. Excessive noise, vibration, dust and waste are also prohibited.

How does it work?

The municipality checks that construction is taking place according to building codes. It also checks for safety and whether the building has been or is being built according to the permit issued.

Township supervisors have the following rights to properly monitor:

  • They may enter buildings without permission. This does not apply to entering a dwelling without the consent of the occupant. There is a separate procedure for this.
  • They may request information.
  • They may view business records and documents and make copies of them.
  • They may examine things, such as taking samples, opening packages and taking items.

If the municipality finds that construction is taking place in violation of building codes, it can stop construction or close access to the building.

What to do.
