Bakkeveen
Bakkeveen (Bakkefean) is a beautiful village near the three province point of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. An unusual piece of Friesland where forest, heath and dunes predominate. A village where you can enjoy walking, cycling but also vacation. Because Bakkeveen has something for everyone.

Landscape of Bakkeveen
Near Bakkeveen are the Bakkeveen Dunes. This is a heath and forest area untouched by the peat extraction in the 19th century. This is what all of southeast Friesland looked like two centuries ago. From the only sheepfold in Friesland, a flock of sheep grazes the adjacent heathland of Allardsoog and the heathland of Bakkeveen.
Bakkeveen lies in the eastern basin of the small river Het Koningsdiep or It Alddjip, which rises northeast of Bakkeveen.
Landgoed de Slotplaats near Bakkeveen is one of the larger Frisian woodlands with a starry castle, a classical garden with moat and stately beech avenues.
