Recommendation to use an alternative to UF foam for insulation
The Municipal Health Services (GGDs) are advising homeowners and housing associations to opt for an alternative material for insulating cavity walls for the time being. Preliminary research by the Academic Workplace for a Healthy Living Environment indicates that retrofitting insulation with UF foam (urea-formaldehyde foam) can lead to acute health effects among residents.

Through the Insulation Initiative, it is possible to receive a subsidy for insulating owner-occupied homes. The municipality of Opsterland no longer offers UF foam through the Insulation Initiative’s business service desk. The municipality is taking its responsibility for the health and safety of residents seriously and is working with expert organizations to continue offering safe insulation solutions.
