The story of Elim
The church building on the Taeijewyk was built as a successor to the Rehoboth Church on the Van Akenwei. Little information is available about the church building.
The building is a modern-style church made of yellow brick. The gabled roof of the main building is covered with black glazed tiles. On the western side wall, a bell pylon is built with an open structure, with a wrought iron structure on the inside. This also houses the entrance. The south facade is closed and on this is the name of the church. Both side facades have several windows. At the rear, an outbuilding was built with an entrance and windows. This part has a flat roof.
The interior is sober and consists of wooden benches and a wooden ceiling with milk-glass bulb lighting. The organ with neo-Gothic organ case was built around 1895 for the chapel of the St. Antoniusgesticht in Amsterdam. Subsequently, the organ stood in the Goede Vrijdagskapel in The Hague and then in the Pauluskerk, also in The Hague. Since 1960 the organ stood in the Elim church. It now uses an electronic Monarke organ (since 2010), the speakers are in the organ case.
During 2015, the building was restored and was out of use for several months. Underfloor heating was installed in the church hall and the roof had new insulation and new tiles. An emergency exit was also created. In November 2015, the church was recommissioned. The church building is used for church services and religious activities.
