Field Operations Manager

This is an old post.

The Municipality of Opsterland is looking for a:

Field Operations Manager

HBO I Scale 8 I fixed-term with a view to permanent I 36 hours

You start the day at the yard in Gorredijk with a cup of coffee and a chat with your team. During the meeting you not only go through the planning, but there is also room to hear what is going on with the people. You divide the work with an eye for everyone's qualities and make sure that colleagues leave with a good feeling. You keep in close contact with your colleagues, think about problems and roll up your sleeves when necessary. Around noon you join a meeting with local interests, where together you look for solutions that suit the neighborhood and its residents. Later in the day you visit a project site, have a chat with the people on the work floor, check on progress and perform a safety inspection. Back at the office, you process reports, keep a finger on the pulse of work in progress and consult with the team leader on scheduling, budget and staffing. You close the day with a consultation about the ice control and prepare a performance review with the manager. A day full of shifting gears, thinking along, connecting and managing - exactly what you excel at.

What will you do?

As a Superintendent in the Gorredijk district, you are part of the Execution team, where you organize and manage the daily work in the field of green and civil engineering together with fellow superintendents. You are the linchpin in the field: you divide the work, monitor progress and quality, and manage your team directly. You identify bottlenecks and opportunities, ensure that reports, complaints and malfunctions are dealt with quickly and carefully, and report the results of the quality inspection (BKP) back to the client.

You keep an overview of budgets and are the contact person for residents, associations, local interests and other involved parties. You are also ultimately responsible for the implementation of ice control and emergency services, and ensure safety on the work floor with regular inspections.

Just as important is that you contribute to a positive team culture, manage desired behavior and think along with your employees about their personal development. With your combination of technical insight, leadership skills and people skills, you are a connecting factor that ensures a balance between the well-being of employees and the goals of the organization. A role with impact, in which you make the difference for the environment and your team.

Here's what we offer you

  • Attractive terms of employment; an attractive salary according to scale 8 of the collective labor agreement for municipalities (max.€ 4,297 gross per month for full-time employment) an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 17.05%, travel allowance, a pension plan through ABP and discounts on various insurances.
  • A varied job; one day you are handling citizen complaints and the next day you are distributing work.
  • Plenty of opportunities to develop through training, courses and workshops.
  • Room for your ideas; if you think things can be done differently we are open to that.
  • Excellent work/life balance; you will receive a laptop and a cell phone from us, allowing you to work both in the office and on location.
  • Attention to your vitality; participation in our vitality program, annual multiple activities with the entire organization and team, and a fun work café!

Who are you?

We are all different and that's beautiful. That makes us achieve much more together than alone. Yet all of our Executives share some of the same characteristics. Do you recognize yourself in this?

  • Our ideal superintendent has at least an MBO (Level 4) degree in landscaping and continues to develop himself, for example through a college education or management training such as MMI. Together, we ensure a solid basis and growth in professionalism.
  • Experience in landscaping is essential. You know the business, have led teams and know how to take projects successfully from start to finish. Your practical knowledge ensures smooth and professional execution.
  • You also have an affinity for civil engineering work such as paving, drainage and earth moving. You understand the relationship between green and gray and ensure that both parts of a project fit together seamlessly. In this way you deliver integral quality and prevent surprises during execution.
  • Safety and professionalism are paramount. With a VCA VOL certificate, work planner's diploma and the appropriate driving licenses and machinist's papers, you are fully equipped to lead responsibly and competently.
  • You are familiar with plants, soil and ecology and know exactly which working methods and machines are needed to make green projects a success. For you, technology and nature go hand in hand.
  • With your empathy and leadership, you create a positive work atmosphere and manage the team with confidence and clarity.
  • You are a solution-oriented planner who tackles problems quickly and organizes projects tightly. You enjoy working with others and believe that you are better together.
  • You know what is required by law to work safely and sustainably. Environmental and nature regulations, health and safety legislation and safety are not paper tigers for you, but daily practice.
  • You like to try things out and do things a little differently.
  • You want to make a difference for our congregation every day.
  • In short, as a connecting link Health you ensure that both the team and the organization work together successfully and sustainably on beautiful green and/or civil projects.
