Is your home or business not connected to the sewer system? The municipality provides the connection to the public sewer system from the plot boundary of your building. On your own property, you must provide your own sewerage system.

Sewer

Sewer clogged. Now what?

  • Always report sewer problems to the municipality.
  • Check with your neighbors to see if they also have sewer problems.
  • Does it involve sewage that the municipality is not responsible for? If so, contact the owner or landlord of the property.
  • Investigate where the clog is located. To do this, the owner must excavate (or have excavated) the property boundary pit/drainage piece himself. On the boundary of almost every parcel of land is a so-called de-clogging piece. Digging up the unblocked piece of land can shed light on where the problem is. Please note, the costs incurred to dig up the drain are entirely for the owner, even if it turns out that the blockage is in the municipal section.

See if there is water in the yard partition

No water in the yard drain: your responsibility

  • If there is no water in the unblocker, the passage to the municipal sewer is open and therefore the clog is on your own property. In that case, you are responsible for unblocking it yourself.

Well water in the yard drain: our responsibility

  • If there is water in the drain, the blockage is in the municipal section. In this case, always call the municipality. The municipality will take care of solving the clog.

Who pays the cost?

  • The cost incurred to dig up the unblocked area is entirely for the owner even if it turns out that the clog is in the municipal section.
  • If there is a blockage in the municipal section, the municipality fixes it. We do not charge a fee. Did you have a company solve the clog in the municipal section? Then the costs will be at your expense. Note: in this case, the municipality does not reimburse the costs incurred for the unblocking.
  • In the event of a blockage on your own property, you are responsible for the unblocking and costs. Any repair costs of defects are also your own responsibility.
