Another grant for wolf-proofing measures

Due to an increasing demand for subsidies for wolf-proofing measures, the province of Fryslân has again increased the subsidy budget. This time with €500,000. Additional subsidy had already been made available in early May and the scheme was also adjusted. Since then, dozens of additional applications have come in. As a result, the subsidy budget - provided at the beginning of May - is already almost exhausted. To help animal farmers as much as possible to take wolf-proofing measures, another €500,000 additional subsidy is now being provided.

"In moanne lyn ha we €250.000,- beskikber steld. Wy ûntfongen dêrnei binnen in pear wike tsientallen oanfragen, wêrtroch't by nochris 3.000 lânbouhúsdieren wolfkearjende maatregel troffen wurde kinne.", sketst deputearre Matthijs de Vries. "We binne bliid mei al dy oanfragen, mar it betsjut wol that het jild alwer hast op is. We wolle net ôfwachtsje, dêrom stelle we ekstra budzjet beskikber. Sa kinne wy ús dierhâlders stimulearjen bliuwe harren lânbouhúsdieren te beskermjen."

Grant scheme

The province of Fryslân has already had a subsidy scheme for wolf-proofing measures since April 12, 2022. This has already been modified several times, for example to simplify the application process. Earlier this year, the subsidy scheme was evaluated and reopened. In doing so, the subsidy area was expanded to include the municipalities of Heerenveen, Opsterland, Ooststellingwerf, Weststellingwerf and Smallingerland. The subsidy scheme is for animal keepers of all ungulates[1], with the exception of fallow deer. The maximum subsidy amount is €30,000.

[1] Covered are: cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, camels, llamas, water buffalo, alpacas, equidae and cervids - excluding fallow deer.
