Olterterterp

Olterterp is located in the municipality of Opsterland, east of Beetsterzwaag. It is the smallest village in the municipality, with about 90 inhabitants. Despite its small size, Olterterp has a rich history and some special attractions.

The church of Olterterp

In Olterterp there is an old church from 1415. The tower of the church was added in the 18th century. This church is dedicated to St. Hippolytus. Inside, 17th- and 18th-century tombstones lie on the floor. On the walls hang mourning boards from the 18th century, for members of important families who lived in the area, such as the Boelens, Lycklama à Nijeholt and Hemminga families. The church was built in Gothic style. The Alde Fryske Tsjerken Foundation manages the church and concerts are organized regularly.

Huize Olterterp and historic buildings

In 1793 the country house Boelensstate was built in Olterterp. In 1907 this was replaced by Huize Olterterp, a white villa with a hipped roof in a business renewal style. The building is now used by It Fryske Gea. Next to the villa are a coach house and two service houses on the Van Harinxmaweg. Closer to Beetsterzwaag is the mansion De Horst, designed in 1907 by the architect Luitje de Goed in renewal style.

The White House and walking in nature

In Olterterp stands the characteristic hotel-restaurant the White House. This is a nice place to spend the night, eat or enjoy the terrace. The White House is also a good starting point for walks in the area. From here you can walk the Van Boelensommetje, a route through the Park Olterterp.
