Precipitation

As the weather changes, we’re seeing more frequent episodes of extremely heavy rain within a short period of time. This is already happening, but it will occur even more often in the future. By 2050, it will occur five times more often, and by 2085, as many as ten times more often. During such heavy rainfall, the sewer system cannot immediately handle the large volume of water. This leads to disruptions, such as impassable roads and damage to buildings. Paved, densely built-up areas are particularly vulnerable to flooding. 
 

What can you do?

The municipality of Opsterland handles many water-related matters, such as the maintenance of the sewer system and drainage in public areas.
