Gearkomst ried Opsterlân

The city council will hold a special meeting next Tuesday. On Tuesday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m., the council will discuss the new coalition agreement. The current aldermen will also be bid farewell, and the new aldermen and two council members will be sworn in. You are cordially invited to attend this special meeting in the council chamber at the town hall in Beetsterzwaag. You can also watch the meeting from home via the municipal website and on FRYN.

In the March 18 elections, you, as residents, elected a new city council. With the arrival of a new city council, we must also consider forming a new executive committee and drafting a new coalition agreement. The Opsterlands Belang and FNP political groups together hold a majority in the municipal council and have been working on a coalition agreement under the leadership of the coalition negotiator. The council will debate this on Tuesday, June 23.

The two parties are proposing to the council that Anneke Oosterwoud (current party chair of Opsterlands Belang), Marcel van Opzeeland (current Alderman Opsterland), and Bert Koonstra (former Alderman Noardeast-Fryslân) be appointed as aldermen. From that moment on, these three aldermen, together with the mayor, will form the municipal executive.

When a new municipal executive takes office, the previous one steps down. Therefore, during this council meeting, the council will bid farewell to aldermen Durk Durksz, Libbe de Vries, and Rob Jonkman.

Anneke Oosterwoud and Marcel van Opzeeland are currently council members. They cannot Alderman both council members and Alderman , so two seats on the city council will become vacant. Bianca Fennema and Harm Meijer are available to fill these positions. It is proposed that the council admit them following their appointment and then swear them in.

This council meeting marks the conclusion of the coalition-building process. By then, there will be a new city council and a new executive board, and a governing agreement for the next four years will be in place. Of course, work in the municipality has not come to a standstill during the formation process. The city council met yesterday to discuss the FUMO budget, the annual financial statements, the spring report, and the outlook letter, and will make a decision on these matters on June 30. After that, the city council will be on recess. But more on that in the next newsletter.
