Three arrests after New Year's Eve vandalism in Gorredijk
Today, the police arrested three suspects in an investigation into multiple acts of vandalism and arson during New Year's Eve in Gorredijk. Various acts of vandalism were committed in the village, and an explosion occurred at a restaurant on Hoofdstraat.
The incidents took place during the night of December 31, 2025, to January 1, 2026. At a restaurant on Hoofdstraat, a firework bomb was detonated against the facade of the building. The explosion damaged both the facade and the interior of the building. There is a residence above the restaurant, and the arson created a danger to the surrounding area.
Mayor Andries Bouwman: "We will not tolerate the widespread destruction and violence that took place in Gorredijk during New Year's Eve. The damage is extensive and will result in considerable costs and efforts for the community. We are therefore pleased that the police have already made the first arrests thanks to their careful actions. We will recover as much of the damage as possible from those responsible."
