Verloop Bakery, Purveyor to the Royal Household

Starting today, the bakery "De Bakkers van Verloop" is a Purveyor to the Royal Household. During the celebration of the company’s 100th anniversary in Gorredijk, the management received the title and coat of arms from King’s Commissioner Arno Brok, in the presence of Opsterland Mayor Andries Bouwman.

The story begins in 1926 on Brouwerswal in Gorredijk, where Jan Jozeph and Njankje Verloop opened a bakery. Over the next hundred years, the business grew to become a household name in Southeast Friesland.

The fourth generation is now at the helm, and the family business operates ten stores in locations including Gorredijk, Beetsterzwaag, Drachten, Heerenveen, Oosterwolde, Appelscha, and Noordwolde. Verloop is known for its artisanal bread and pastries, as well as Frisian specialties. The award recognizes a century of entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, and the company’s significance to the region.

Small and medium-sized enterprises are eligible for the Royal Warrant. The company must hold a leading position in its industry within the region, and its business practices must be impeccable. The company and its management must have a good reputation and be of impeccable character. A company must have been in existence for at least one hundred years. The title may be granted by the King on the occasion of a special anniversary (100th or 125th anniversary, and thereafter at intervals of 25 years).
