Waste separation

Logo Together we get everything out of it

A lot of fruit and vegetable waste ends up in the gray sorting bin. That it doesn't belong there, you know, of course. Often it is easier to throw it in the trash or you don't find it fresh to collect fruit and vegetable waste separately. Fruit and vegetable waste in the green bio bin, and only residual waste in the gray sorting bin. That's where we want to go.

More sustainable but also cheaper

Separating your waste is not only better for the environment, it's also good for your wallet. Because emptying the bio-bin will cost you less than emptying the sorting bin. Did you know that emptying the organic waste bin costs € 0.50 and emptying the sorting bin costs € 6.75? Throw less fruit and vegetable waste in the sorting bin, so you don't have to dispose of it as often.

Everyone less waste

Also, fruit and vegetable waste contains a lot of moisture, and that moisture makes the sorting bin unnecessarily heavy. Less weight in the sorting bin is important because we have agreed in the Netherlands that in 2020 there should be a maximum of 100 kilograms per person per year of residual waste. In Opsterland, the average weight is now 106 kilos per resident per year. An average of 6 kilos less should end up in the gray container in our municipality. Fruit and vegetable waste saves a lot of weight. But also the even better separate collection of textiles, paper, glass and small electrical appliances contributes to achieving the national objectives.
