Municipal tax waiver application

Are you unable to pay the municipal taxes? Then you may be entitled to relief. In that case, you do not have to pay the assessment or part of it. You can only apply for remission of the waste collection levy, container fees (maximum € 75.00), sewerage levy and property tax (OZB).

Frequently asked questions about Municipal Tax Waiver

  • I want to apply for municipal tax remission, how do I do that?

Fill out the form 'Application for Municipal Tax Relief' (at the top of this page under the heading 'Directly arrange'). Do you not have access to DigiD? Then you can pick up the form at the Public Centre. Is this not possible? Then we can also send you the form.

  • I received a letter that I was granted a waiver, now I also receive an assessment. Do I still have to pay now?

The municipality is required to send the assessment. Is the assessment number and amount on the letter and on the assessment the same? Then you do not have to pay the assessment.

  • I received a letter that I did not receive an automatic waiver. Do I now have to pay the assessment?

If you think you are eligible for relief, you can still apply for it. To do so, fill out the form 'Application for Municipal Tax Relief' (at the top of this page, under the heading 'Direct Payment'). Do you not have access to DigiD? Then you can pick up the form at the Public Centre. Is this not possible? Then we can also send you the form.

If you do not request a waiver, the assessment must be paid. The assessment itself will tell you how to pay.

  • I applied for/received remission at the Northern Tax Office. Will I get the same at the municipality?

If you have not received a letter from the municipality telling you that you are eligible for municipal tax relief, you can still request this from the municipality. Fill in the form 'Application for Municipal Tax Relief' (at the top of this page under the heading 'Directly arrange'). Do you not have access to DigiD? Then you can pick up the form at the Public Centre. Is this not possible? Then we can also send you the form. An application to the Northern Tax Office does not apply to municipal taxes, and vice versa.

Requirements

Whether you are granted relief depends on your income and assets and possibly those of your partner. In the calculation, the municipality also takes into account the number of roommates (over the age of 27) with whom you can share expenses. This is the 'cost sharing standard'.

Waiver is possible if:

  • income is equal to or less than the social minimum.
  • there are no assets such as:
    • An owner-occupied home with surplus value.
    • a car worth more than €3,350, except if that car is indispensable for your work or due to disability.
    • Property or assets in capital/life insurance, stocks or securities.
  • the balance of all bank and savings accounts does not exceed a certain amount, depending on your living situation.
  • you do not have multiple license plates in your name.

You can see the overview of the standards for income and assets in this overview from the VNG.

What to do.

After you receive your tax assessment, you can apply for remission online via DigiD. It is best to do this as soon as possible.

Are you unable to apply for relief via DigiD? Please contact us and we will send you a remission form.

Did you pay the entire assessment more than three months ago? Then you can no longer apply for remission.

Will you not receive a waiver?

Is your request rejected and you have to pay the assessment? Then it is always possible to request a payment arrangement.

Do you disagree with the rejection? Then you can file an appeal within 10 working days.

Waiver for self-employed workers

Self-employed entrepreneurs can only apply for relief for private taxes. Requesting relief for municipal taxes related to your business is not possible.

Waiver for water board charges

Do you want to apply for water board fee remission? Then go to the Northern Tax Office website . Applications for remission of municipal taxes and water board charges are reviewed separately.
