Signing Review of Regional Housing Deals.
Today in Leeuwarden was the signing of the recalibration of the Frisian regional housing deals. Alderman Marcel van Opzeeland was present on behalf of the municipality of Opsterland.
Alderman Marcel van Opzeeland:
"Municipality of Opsterland is ready, in the coming years we will build plenty of new housing. But the speed at which we can build is being slowed down by the national government. With the signing of the recalibration of the Frisian Housing Deals, we as a municipality of Opsterland make another appeal to the State: solve the bottlenecks that hinder housing construction. Consider, for example, the nitrogen problem and the overcrowded electricity grid. These problems must be solved at the national level, otherwise housing locations such as in Bakkeveen, which borders a Natura2000 area, will remain locked up. We want to continue. Opsterland is ready for it. Now all that remains is the national government."

Press release Provinsje Fryslân
Signing Review of Regional Housing Deals.
The Frisian municipalities and the Provinsje Fryslân signed today, during the first Fryske Wentafel, the recalibration of the Frisian regional housing deals. These are agreements between municipalities, the province and the state. In the original housing deals, it was agreed that approximately 17,500 new homes would be built through 2030. With this recalibration, 4,686 homes will be added, bringing the total to 22,406 new homes in Fryslân.
The dynamics of both the cities and the countryside are an important starting point. Scattered over Fryslân numerous housing projects contribute to the housing task and to the liveability of villages and cities. It is important to preserve Fryslân's unique characteristics. This fits the Frisian nature and scale. A good balance between affordable housing, social housing and other forms of housing is essential to meet the various housing needs. The province is committed to realizing two-thirds of new housing in the affordable segment.
Specific to the Frisian approach is the focused attention on innovations in the fields of circular, industrial and biobased building. But bottlenecks also arise in achieving the desired results, such as grid congestion and the nitrogen issue. Continued attention to these issues is essential to keep making progress.
Regional housing deals can move with developments in the province. That is why they are reviewed every year: what is going well, what can be improved, and what has changed? If necessary, the agreements are adjusted. In this way we ensure that the plans remain in line with what Fryslân really needs in the area of housing.
