Start of housing construction De Trime
Yesterday, aldermen Durk Durksz and Marcel van Opzeeland festively opened the bat tower on De Wissel in Beetsterzwaag. This special tower marks the beginning of the redevelopment of the site of the former elementary school De Trime, where in the coming years about 24 life-proof homes will be built.
The bat tower is not only a fine example of circular and nature-inclusive construction, but also an important link in preserving local biodiversity. It provides the bats that are currently in the chimney of the old school with a new maternity roost. As a result, housing construction and nature conservation go hand in hand.
Alderman Durk Durksz (Sustainable Landscape and Nature) is pleased with the construction of the tower: "The preservation of bioferskaat is tige wichtich. Mei dizze flearmûstoer slaan wy twa miggen yn ien klap: wy beskermje in kwetsbere bistesoarte én meitsje romte foar nije wenten. Flearmûzen binne in ûnmisbere skeakel y in ús ekosysteem. A span of flearmûzen yt alle dagen wol acht - oant tsientûzen ynsekten en drage sa op in natuerlike wize bij oan it yn balâns hâlden fan de omjouwing. It binne dus bysûnder nuttige bisten."
Alderman Marcel van Opzeeland (Housing / Spatial Planning): "De flearmûstoer is in wichtige skeakel yn de ûntwikkeling fan de wenningbou on it terrein fan de eardere basisskoalle De Trime. It is the earste sichtbere stap rjochting de realisaasje fan likernôch 24 wenten. Dat projekt draacht bij oan ús bredere ambysje: oant 2035 wolle wy yn Opsterlân sa'nûzen nije wenten bouwen. On a total of about ten thousand existing houses, this means a large expansion. Tagelyk is it moai to see that the flearmûstoer net allinnich funksjoneel is, but ek in fraai bouwurk wurden, in echte oanwinst foar de omjouwing."
