Junior Consultant for Specialized Internal Audit

HBO | Pay Scale 9 | One-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position | 36 hours

The laptop boots up and you open today’s schedule. Together with your VIC colleague, you discuss which audit you’ll be preparing. You dive into documents, figure out exactly how the process works, and think about an appropriate audit approach. Later that day, you visit a department to ask questions and check how agreements are being implemented in practice. It’s not always an easy task, but it’s certainly an educational one. At the end of the day, you present your findings to your colleague. What’s already on the right track? What could be improved? This is how you grow in the profession, step by step.

What will you do?

As a junior VIC consultant, you’ll work alongside an experienced VIC colleague within the independent Audit & Control team. You’ll receive thorough on-the-job training and plenty of guidance during your initial period to help you get to know the field. Responsibilities are clearly defined, giving you the opportunity to grow and work with increasing independence.

You will learn how to translate laws and regulations into practical audit approaches. You will analyze how processes are structured, identify where risks lie, and determine how to assess them. The focus of your work will be on carrying out audit procedures: meticulously, systematically, and with an eye for detail.

You will conduct audits based on clear guidelines and, together with your colleague, develop appropriate controls if existing work instructions are insufficient. You will document your findings and learn how to discuss them clearly and substantively with colleagues throughout the organization.

This role takes you throughout the entire organization. Not everyone is thrilled about internal audits, but you work together to improve quality and make progress. You’ll learn how to conduct conversations in a professional, calm, and confident manner, and how to stand your ground without losing sight of the importance of collaboration.

Step by step, you will grow into a full-fledged role within VIC and make a tangible contribution to compliance, quality, and reliable information.

Here's what we offer you

  • Attractive employment conditions; a competitive salary based on (entry-level) pay scale 9 of the municipal collective bargaining agreement (up to €5,096 gross per month for full-time employment) with opportunities for advancement to pay scale 10 (up to €5,624 gross per month for full-time employment) as you advance in the role, as well as an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 17.05%, travel allowance, a pension plan through ABP, and discounts on various insurance policies.
  • A varied job; one day you’re doing research, and the next you’re conducting audits and interviews within the organization.
  • Plenty of opportunities to develop through training, courses and workshops.
  • Room for your ideas; if you think things can be done differently we are open to that.
  • Excellent work/life balance; we will provide you with a laptop and a cell phone so you can work from home as well as in the office.

Who are you?

We’re all different, and that’s wonderful. It means we can achieve so much more together than we could on our own. You don’t have to be an experienced VIC member just yet. What matters most to us is that you have an affinity for the field. Do you recognize yourself in these core qualities?

  • You enjoy diving into processes to understand how they are structured and where there is room for improvement.
  • You work with precision and organization, and find satisfaction in clear work instructions and quality checks.
  • You’re open to learning and ask for help when needed.
  • You handle resistance professionally and are confident and self-assured.
  • You communicate clearly and respectfully and are good at dealing with different types of people.
