Frieschepalen - Maintenance on the A7 between Exit 34 (Westpoort) and Exit 31 (Frieschepalen)

On behalf of Rijkswaterstaat, Gebr. van der Lee is carrying out routine and non-routine maintenance work on the national highway network in the northern Netherlands.

This includes asphalt maintenance. These so-called life-extending maintenance activities ensure that road sections with early-stage asphalt damage are preserved.
This is also the case on the A7 between Westpoort and Frieschepalen.

Because this work is weather-dependent, it will be carried out from late May through the summer break.

In the coming period, construction work will be carried out on the A7, resulting in closures of the following on- and off-ramps:

Through traffic on the A7

A detour route has been set up for through traffic on the A7 from Groningen to Frieschepalen via the N370 – N355 – N358 (Groningen – Zuidhorn – Grijpskerk – Buitenpost – Surhuisterveen – Frieschepalen)

Emergency services

Under Requirements ," PRIO 1 emergency services will be granted Requirements to the work zone on the A7re between Westpoort and Frieschepalen. Given the length of the road closure, we understand that it is not feasible in terms of response times to take the detour via the N370 and N355 and beyond.

The emergency services have been notified separately.

Public transportation services

Unfortunately, buses cannot pass through the closed construction zone, nor can they use the closed on- and off-ramps.

Exception to this:

• The Westpoort on- and off-ramps up to the Leek bus exit; this section of the A7 is accessible to Qbuzz.
• Please do not continue driving from Groningen toward Drachten; instead, take the Westpoort exit and then merge onto the A7 via the Westpoort ramp. We have a gatekeeper there who will let you through.
• After Leek, it is not possible for bus routes to use the A7 toward Drachten. 

Oude Riet Care Facility

The Oude Riet rest area and gas station will be closed to traffic during the road closure. Gas station employees may leave the rest area and continue their journey via the Marum exit. Please do not drive through the area due to full-width asphalt work; if you must pass through, proceed at a very slow speed.
